Traditional dental X-rays give us a flat, two-dimensional view of your teeth. Our 3D digital imaging system gives us the full picture — a complete three-dimensional model of your teeth, jaw, sinuses, and surrounding structures.

This level of detail helps us diagnose problems more accurately, plan treatments more precisely, and explain what we see to you in a way you can actually visualize.

The Carestream 9600 3D system

Lakeview Family Dentistry uses the Carestream 9600 3D imaging system, which combines traditional panoramic imaging with cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) in a single integrated unit. The system captures high-resolution images in a matter of seconds while exposing you to significantly less radiation than traditional medical CT scans — and up to 75% less radiation than older dental X-ray systems.

When 3D imaging is used

Not every dental visit requires 3D imaging. We use it when the clinical situation calls for the additional detail it provides, including:

• Implant planning — visualizing bone quality and quantity for implant placement
• Complex root canal evaluation — when referring to an endodontist
• Difficult extractions — identifying tooth root configurations and proximity to nerves
• TMJ evaluation — examining jaw joint structure
• Sinus and airway assessment
• Detection of cysts, tumors, and impacted teeth
• Orthodontic planning — when referring to an orthodontist

The patient experience

3D imaging is fast, comfortable, and non-invasive. You stand or sit in the imaging unit while the scanner rotates around your head, capturing data from multiple angles. The entire scan typically takes less than 30 seconds. There's no enclosed tunnel like a medical CT scan — you're in an open environment the whole time.
