COSMETIC DENTISTRY
Professional Teeth Whitening
Custom-fit whitening trays with prescription-strength gel deliver dramatically better results than anything you can buy over the counter.
Brighten your smile, the right way
Few cosmetic improvements transform a smile as dramatically as professional teeth whitening. Lakeview Family Dentistry offers custom-fit take-home whitening trays — a system that produces consistent, predictable results while keeping the whitening gel exactly where it should be: on your teeth, not your gums.
Why professional whitening is better than store-bought
- Higher concentration of bleaching agent for dramatically better results
- Custom-fit trays made from impressions of your teeth — the gel reaches every surface evenly
- Professional supervision to monitor sensitivity and adjust your treatment
- Predictable results based on your specific tooth color and stain type
- Three to eight shades brighter in most cases, versus one to two shades for OTC products
How the process works
Step 1: Consultation. We examine your teeth to confirm you're a good candidate for whitening and to identify any restorations (crowns, fillings, veneers) that won't whiten and may need to be replaced after treatment to match.
Step 2: Custom trays. We take impressions of your teeth and create thin, comfortable whitening trays that fit your mouth precisely.
Step 3: Whitening at home. We provide you with prescription-strength whitening gel and detailed instructions. You wear the trays for the recommended time each day over the course of two to eight weeks. Whitening works best when trays are worn overnight, though daytime wear options are also available.
Step 4: Results. Most patients see noticeable improvement within the first few days and full results within two weeks. We provide additional gel for touch-ups every six months to maintain your results.
Maintaining your bright smile
Whitening results typically last six months to three years depending on your lifestyle. To maintain your brighter smile:
- Limit coffee, tea, red wine, and other staining beverages — or drink them through a straw
- Don't smoke or use tobacco
- Brush twice daily and floss daily
- Visit us every six months for professional cleanings
- Use the touch-up gel we provide every six months or as needed
Common questions
Does whitening damage teeth?
No. When performed properly, whitening is considered safe. The peroxide breaks down stain molecules without damaging enamel structure.
Does whitening hurt?
Most patients experience no pain. Some develop temporary sensitivity that resolves within a few days. Using sensitivity toothpaste before and during whitening reduces this risk.
Will whitening work on my crowns and fillings?
No. Whitening agents only affect natural tooth structure. Restorations remain their original color. We can replace visible restorations after whitening to match your new tooth color.
Is whitening covered by insurance?
No. Whitening is considered cosmetic and is not covered by dental insurance.
